Report of the T-GRoUP Kick-Off workshop

From 1-3 September, the T-GroUP kick off workshop took place at UNESCO-IHE in Delft. The main purpose of the workshop was to get to know each other, to learn more about Transition Management and Learning Alliances, to discuss data collection programs, to identify overlaps and differences between the three focal areas in Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania, and to detail individual year plans of each team member.

Transition Management and Learning Alliances

Roel van Raak and Julia Wittmayer from the Dutch Research Institute for Transitions (DRIFT) gave a presentation on Doing Transition Management and TM as a practice-science interface. In their presentation, they focused on TM principles and balances, the TM cycle, how to get started, and an example case. They also reflected on the role of the action researcher in the TM process. Then, Maryam Nastar gave a presentation about Transition Management in relation to urban water access in the Global South, whereby focus was on how actors involved in the process of water governance, at different levels and scales, reproduce inequality and how Transition Management can help tackle those inequality related problems. Her presentation can be found here.

The presentations were followed by a discussion and the identification of problems in implementing/integrating transition management and the learning alliance in the three focal areas of the project.

Adapted Logical Framework of Year 1 of the Project

The discussion on data collection programs, and the identification of overlaps and differences between the three focal areas in Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania, together with the individual year plans of each team member finally lead to the adapted logical framework of the T-GRoUP project for Year 1.
